John William Wilton Kingshott

John William Wilton Kingshott, sometimes recored as John William Winton Kingshott, was a Driver the 10th Auxillary Horse Transport Company, AIF, Australian Army Service Corps. His service number was TX609.

John was the son of William James Kingshott and his wife Rosina Susannah nee Wilton of New Norfolk, Tasmania, Australia. He was the eldest of seven children. Interestingly, John's father was actually born William James Woods, but brought up as William James Kingshott. This is because his mother re-married when William was 7 years old. She married John William Kingshott, the grandson of John Kingshott of Greatham. So, although John is not biologically a Kingshott, he certainly remains part of our family.

John was born on 20th September 1904 in New Norfolk, Tasmania. He was the eldest in a family of 7 children. Unfortunately, his mother died on 28th June 1912 and his father subsequently remarried. From this second marriage, John had another 13 half-siblings.

John was married to Sylvia but I have no details of this marriage and do not know if he had any children.

John died, most likely from injuries received during the war, on 4th November 1945 at the Repatriation Hospital, Hobart, Tasmania. He was buried two days later in the Cornelian Bay Cemetery at Hobart.
